Liberty University was founded by the renowned televangelist, Jerry Falwell in the year 1971. The University is a private and evangelical Christian University located in Lynchburg, Virginia. The University’s physical is at Lynchburg but most of its students are online anyway. This University has an insane number of undergraduate enrollments too; as of 2017, it enrolled more than 15,000 students at its physical campus and 94,000 students for online courses, making a total of about 110,000 undergraduate in total. The University is made up of 17 colleges plus a school of osteopathic medicine and a school of law. Liberty University sports team competes in Division I of the NCAA and they are generally known as the Liberty Flames. The college’s football team is an NCAA Division I FBS independent but most of the University’s other sports teams compete in the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Christian University has received regional accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) in the year 1980 and it was reaffirmed in 2016. The University has over 60 degree accredited degree-granting programs; the law school was accredited in 2010, the medical school was accredited in 2009, to crown it all, liberty has received Level VI accreditation from SACS; the highest classification a school can get from SACS.
