Grand Canyon University is a private and Christian University that is based in Phoenix. This school has deep belief in Christian standards in its standards down to its walls. It was founded on August 1st, 1949 in Prescott, Arizona. Initially, the school was a nonprofit Christian-missionary school owned by the Arizona Southern Baptist Convention but in the months between 1999-2000, the school broke affiliation with the Convention and when it faced financial difficulties, the school’s authorities sold it to California based Significant Education, LLC. Following the exchange of ownership, the school became the first for-profit Christian school in the U.S and the first and only for-profit college to ever participate in NCAA Division I athletics.
The University offers over two hundred bachelor’s, masters, and doctoral programs in all of its nine colleges such as business, doctoral studies, fine arts, humanities, and social sciences, engineering and technology, theology, education, nursing and health care professions. In August 2016, Grand Canyon University announced that it was opening a seminary. The University runs an online schooling program too and it has about 9000 students via the internet program. The school is regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission; it has also been accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The University also has accreditation from various bodies like the ACBSP, CCNE, and CAATE.
