Novelty College Degree: 10 Decisions to Make Before You Order

Ordering a novelty college degree takes ten decisions, and all ten are made on one form. Get them right and the replica — the Perfect Match Diploma, built from the school's real design for display, gifts and props — comes back looking like the document it copies. Here are the ten, in the order the form asks for them.

Ten decisions on the order form

1. The school

Enter the school's full name. The diploma is built from that school's real design, drawn from thousands of college and university designs on file; if the school is not on file, the maker finds it. Check the school is not on the excluded list on Things We Can't Do.

2. The level and the degree title

Associate, bachelor's, master's or doctorate, and the complete degree title — Bachelor of Arts, Master of Science — because the school's wording for that level is what the layout carries.

3. The name as it should appear

Middle name or initial, suffix, hyphenation: the diploma prints the name exactly as entered, so decide the form now rather than at the proof.

4. The major

Printed as entered, in the position the school's design gives it. A minor goes on the matching transcript, not the diploma.

5. The graduation date

The school's conferral date, in the format the school uses. Spring and winter dates differ by school; the proof is where you confirm it.

6. The honors line

Cum laude, magna cum laude or summa cum laude where the school uses them, or none. Graduate degrees usually carry no honors line.

7. The size

8.5×11, 11×14 or A4. Match the frame you already own, or the school's own size if you know it.

8. The seal finish

Color, gold-foil or embossed. Gold foil reads from across a room; embossed is the quieter choice for a desk frame.

9. The signatures

Printed with made-up in-house signatures, or left blank for you to sign. No real official's signature is reproduced.

10. Delivery and timing

A printed diploma on diploma-quality paper shipped by UPS — the cart shows your options and a UPS quote before you pay — or a PDF by digital delivery. Standard production is 3 business days; rush, chosen on the form, has the proof ready in 1 business day. A matching transcript (USD 109 to 190 by level) or the diploma-and-transcripts package (USD 289 to 349) is the optional eleventh decision.

Then the proof

A free digital proof follows and changes at the proof stage are free. Read every field against the ten decisions above before you approve. The diploma is USD 190 at every level, and the guarantee is a rework promise: “Your satisfaction is our guarantee. If you're not happy with your document, we'll revise it until you are.” Is this a real diploma? No. It looks real, but it is a novelty replica for display, gifts and props; the maker is not affiliated with any institution and does not make documents intended for misrepresentation. Only the school can issue the document itself.

Two companion guides: six checks for choosing a novelty degree or diploma covers what to ask any seller before the form, and what a college diploma looks like shows the seven elements you will be checking on the proof.

Before the form: ask for samples

For any associate, bachelor's, master's or doctorate diploma you can request a few digital samples before you order. Seeing the school's layout first settles several of the ten decisions — the size the school uses, whether its design carries an honors line, how many signature lines it has — before you type anything into the form.

Frequently asked questions

Can I change a decision after I order?

Yes, at the proof stage, where changes are free. After approval the document is printed as proofed.

Do I need to send a photo of the real diploma?

No. The school's design is already on file or is found by the maker; you supply the details, not the artwork.

Is the price the same for every decision?

The diploma is USD 190 at every level with any seal, size or signature option. Transcripts, rush production and shipping are the items that change the total.
